A little bit of running in my life

Okay, so that was totally supposed to go to the tune of “Mambo #5″….

And now you went back and read it in your head like the song, huh? 🙂

Sooo it has happened. I have run a mile straight without stopping. Let me say that again in case you didn’t read that right: I RAN A MILE STRAIGHT WITHOUT STOPPING. It was amazing. I worked really hard to get to that point. I have probably been interval training for around a year, off and on. I struggled with it but I kept pushing forward knowing that I would get there eventually. PLEASE do not tell yourself you CANNOT run if you are a bigger lad/lady. Because, in the words of Obama,  it is simply just not true. Next stop, 1.25 miles. Baby steps, ya’ll.

I have signed up for the http://www.runordye.com 5k on June 8th! So excited to do it! I haven’t run (walk/jogged/huffed) a 5k since last year!

Soooo this may sound crazy, but I bought the handmade flour tortillas from Trader Joe’s this week on a whim after about 15 minutes of deliberation (read: standing in people’s way looking like a total  idiot staring at nutrition facts on about 10 packages of tortillas) since we are having fish tacos for dinner this week. I figured it would be a nice change for Jose since it’s something we wouldn’t normally buy. Well I brought them home, Jose said “Oh, I wouldn’t have minded whole wheat.” First of all, where the hell is my husband and what alien life form replaced him??!?! That does not sound like my Jose at all. Second of all, I have had two of them,  and guess what? I feel like a poo stick. Seriously. The hype is true about processed foods. They just don’t make you feel good once your body is used to eating whole foods. Third of all, can we just go back to the fact that Jose is totally on board with eating healthy? I know people don’t believe it, I don’t know if I believe it (just kidding). I am really proud of him. He really enjoys eating/cooking healthy with me. That makes it a million times easier trying to live/provide a healthy life style for us. I know I’m really lucky to have a supportive spouse. So big ups to Jose!

Also— Still working on my weight lifting plan… 🙂

I want to get back to posting normally. I have only been using this blog for updates on my biggest loser contests. I think I am going to put that on hold for a while and just work on me. Honestly, it was great and everyone who participated was amazing and motivating me every single day. I have amazing people in my life.

I have struggled with weight loss my ENTIRE life (newsflash). Even here today I sit 55 lbs lighter than my heaviest weight, with my work cut out for me. I am much happier and healthier than I was 55 lbs ago, but I am not in denial about how much further I have to go. I’m not saying that to be a Negative Nancy, I am just saying I am giving myself a reality check. I am proud of every single ounce I have worked off. It has been hard. I have lost and gained and lost and gained. I don’t just want to be skinnier, I want to be STRONGER. I want to do pull ups, chin ups, push ups, burpees, etc. I can’t do any of that right now (I can MAYBE squeeze out 5 push ups if my life depended on it)! Sometimes I get burned out from tracking calories every. single. day.  BUT I know that that’s the only way it comes off: by being ACCOUNTABLE. I say this to everyone who ever wondered about how to lose weight: There is no magic pill, potion or concoction that can help you get there (that’s what she said) . You have to be in the right frame of mind to want to make the sacrifices and changes. You have to want to be healthy- you can’t just want a quick fix. You have to figure it out for yourself. It takes a long time to get to that point- well, it did for me. Having supportive people around you is SO crucial. Get rid of the negative people in your life, and seriously, you’re half way there! Don’t feel pressured to impress anyone other than YOURSELF.

I really want to start writing about more than just weight loss- I want to post about all the mundane things, the exciting things, the sad and the happy things going on in my life. I will put a focus on weight loss since that is one of my top priorities right now, but I want to include the good with the bad so I can look back on my journey. I also want to share recipes and work outs and pictures, etc (if you follow me on Instagram, it’s  pretty much a food pic only account haha and I’m not apologizing)! ❤ 😉

My goal right now is to get a good routine going for exercise- namely strength training. I need to work on my guns and my abs! I do the express circuit at the gym (as mentioned in one of my previous posts), but I am ready for more. I want to be actually out in the middle of the gym lifting weights with the meat heads. 🙂 I am seriously terrified. I just need to buckle down and do it. New things excite and scare me at the same time! That is my goal. I am heading to the gym tonight with my husband and I am going to create a plan. I need to run a mile and then we are going to hit the weights. I will post next about what we get accomplished tonight. 🙂 I love looking forward to going to the gym!!! It’s the BEYST! (huge known fact about me: I quote Nacho Libre sometimes A LOT).

Week 9 Results

Seems like this week people are not as motivated– myself included! Getting back to my routine tomorrow. I actually don’t feel myself these past few weeks and I don’t like it. Not keeping up with eating what I should and exercising has really taken a toll on me. The dumb thing about it is, I know what needs to be done! I have just been stuck in a rut from being sick and then not wanting to get back into my routine but I have resolved to keep truckin’ starting tomorrow.

Here are results for this week!

Biggest Loser Week 6 Results

Hello Again,

Here are week 6 results! I was kicked back to 8th place which tells me you guys are really working hard!! I am really trying to get closer to the top!!

This week I feel amazing! Really paying attention to my work outs has been paying off- I had a 2.7 lbs loss this week. I am so thrilled! I am feeling more energy and I am the lowest weight I have been in YEARS!!!! 🙂 I honestly feel for the first time in a while, like I can really truly reach my goals. It just takes hard work and commitment. Also- not focusing on ALL the little mistakes that I make. I’m not perfect. But I can be better.

This week’s challenge is walking/jogging/running 8 miles. It can be broken up into smaller amounts each day. 🙂

week 6

Congrats to the top 3!!! 1. Ronda 2. Leslie 3. Rachael

Have a great week!!! Let’s give them some competition this week! 😉

I Typed All This With Lucy On My Lap

Ahoy-hoy,

Here we are wrapping up another week, and beginning a new one. The nice thing about the end of something is that it also signifies the beginning of something else, no? I was seriously beyond proud of all of my Losers this past week! What progress we are making!! Not one person was in the positive this week!!! 🙂 ***HIGH FIVES*** It feels like you guys are figuring out what works for you and taking charge of changing your lives. I love that!

A huge part of making weightloss a sucess is planning. Is it a pain to take the extra time to pack my lunch when it’s already 9:30 at night and I’ve commuted in the windy-as-hell snow an hour plus to work and home, made lunch. gone to the gym, taken care of some some house work, made time for date night, updated this blog, and planned to make sure I go to bed early (enough) so I can go to work tomorrow not feeling like a zombie? Yes. HOWEVER, it is gonna be a lot LESS painful tomorrow when I have it ready to go so I don’t have to freak out in the morning, or worse, figure out something to eat when I’m at work (aka not good choices). Sacrificing that time to make my lunch is going to save me time in the gym burning off that could have been bad decision at lunch. Changing our habits is not easy, but it’s for our benefit. That extra few hours we take prepping meals is going to save us a lot of time, money, and stress the rest of the week. Prioritizing is key. Planning our meals and penciling in dates with the gym are absolutely necessary. I used to hate to plan ahead (ain’t nobody got time for that!), but I’m learning that it’s essential to what I’m trying to accomplish. Honestly, it just makes life easier!

Here are results for the week!

week 4

Congratulations to our top three this week, 1. Ronda 2. Rachael 3. Leslie 🙂
